Never Tell a Lie
By Hallie Ephron
9/10
My Synopsis:
When expectant parents David and Ivy Rose have a yard sale, they have no idea what they are in for. A former classmate from their high school days, Melinda White who is also expecting, shows up looking for a bargain. She remembers playing their newly purchased house when she was a child. David offers to let Melinda look around inside but does she ever come back out? Now Melinda is missing, David is a suspect, the evidence is overwhelming and the lies just keep piling up. Will Ivy be able to figure out the truth or will she end up putting her own life and the life of her unborn child in jeopardy?
My Opinion:
Never Tell a Lie by Hallie Ephron is a suspense thriller. This story keeps the readers thoroughly on the edge of their seats. The writing is skillfully done and makes you feel all of Ivy’s emotions while raising your suspicions of David as a suspect. I often found myself holding my breath. It was a hard book to but down and I actually read the entire thing in two days. (I forced myself to stop to eat and sleep.) The length of the book is not too short and not too long but just the right length to tell the story. I never once looked to see how many pages I had left to go. With fifty pages left, I got an inkling of how the ending would turn out and I turned out to be correct – sort of. My guess was right but in an indirect way. Some of it seemed almost predictable at times but that didn’t hinder the suspense factor. Just when you think you know what is going to happen next, the author springs a surprise on you. Just when you think you’ve got one thing figured out, a whole new set of evidence emerges. While most of the questions are answered in the end there was one issue left open and, of course, that is something that bugs me in a book. However, that said it is an awesome book that takes readers on a rollercoaster ride of emotions.
9 out of 10.
