My Synopsis
Naomi Jenkins is the victim of a horrible crime.  She holds the secrets of what happened deep within her and has told no one.  But Naomi has another secret - a secret lover, Robert Haworth.  Robert is admittedly unhappy in his marriage to Juliet.  Now Robert has missed a regular meeting with Naomi and is nowhere to be found.  Naomi suspects the worst but will she have a hard time convincing the police that she isn't just a jilted lover?  Juliet says her husband is fine and has met no harm, but Naomi is not convinced.  Can she convince the police to take further action?  Has Robert been the victim of foul play?  Naomi knows how to make the police take her seriously but that involves delving into her own painful past.

My Review
"The Truth-Teller's Lie" was previously published as "Hurting Distance."  The overall topic of this book was rough to read.  The subject of rape is a difficult one and I'm not sure I would have read this book had I known of its content details in advance.  It was very dark and explicit which left me uncomfortable.  The dialogue is very British as it was in Ms. Hannah's other books.  It is full of slang your average American will probably not know as well as British references.  Luckily, I have lived in England previously so I was able to comprehend majority of the book although there were bits and pieces where I myself got stuck.  (You had better know a truck is a lorry across the pond.)  While not a bad read, I felt as though I was slogging through page after page and getting nowhere.  There was so much content on each page.  It was missing much of the back and forth banter that you typically see in novels and I personally enjoy.  It was almost as though she could have finished the book about 100 pages earlier than she actually did.  It really seemed as though it dragged on some especially toward the end.  I knew somewhat of the who-done-it but hadn't resolved all of the details so waiting for the reveal was a bit exhausting.  The plot was well woven and had many twists and turns.  Ms. Hannah does a good job of enticing the reader along through transitions keeping you reading even though you've hit the end of a chapter.  This book is part of a series.  It is #2 with #1 being "Little Face" and #3 being "The Wrong Mother."  I have now read all three of these novels by Ms. Hannah.  I have to say this one was my least favorite.  However, I am pleased that there are even more books in this series - although going forward I will read them in order.  7/10
